Cristina Aguilera: Flamenco art and evolution from Granada to Seville
Cristina Aguilera: flamenco steps and studies
Cristina Aguilera was born in Granada in 1992 and began her journey in flamenco at a very young age. At just eight years old she made her stage debut at Jardines Neptuno under the direction of the renowned maestra, Mariquilla, with whom she received her initial training. Years later, she expanded her dance studies with Maite Galán and, in 2007, obtained her qualification in Spanish Dance and Flamenco awarded by the APDE. In 2010 she completed her formal studies at the Carmen Amaya Conservatory in Madrid, where she finished the Spanish Dance and Flamenco programme.
Cristina Aguilera: flamenco recognition and first productions
In 2015 she presented her first show, Encrucijada, within the Es.Flamenco cycle of the Provincial Council of Granada. That same year she collaborated on Divino Amor Humano by Fuensanta “La Moneta”, with whose company she worked as as assistant choreographer. Since then, Cristina has shown constant artistic growth on stage, earning a place among the most compelling female dancers in contemporary flamenco.
Cristina Aguilera: contemporary flamenco and festival appearances
In 2016 she performed at the 20th Festival de Jerez with La Moneta’s company, took part in the cycle Flamenco Viene del Sur at the Teatro Alhambra and presented her second production, Corazón Abierto, at the Veranos del Corral and later at the Bienal de Flamenco de Sevilla. There she shared the bill with established flamenco figures and strengthened her reputation as an artist with national projection.
Her participation in the Encuentros Flamencos de Granada and collaborations with artists such as El Pele, Rancapino Hijo and Gema Caballero further cemented her position on the current scene.
Cristina Aguilera: new flamenco projects
In the following years, Cristina Aguilera took part in a range of projects, including Granada, alongside Alba Heredia, and De Agua, Plata y Tierra, directed by Jesús Carmona. This production reaffirmed her as a creator with sensitivity and a distinctive stage language, receiving an excellent reception at the 2020 Festival de Jerez.
Cristina has also been involved in productions such as Camino, by Jesús Carmona, Lorca Y La Pasión and Un Mar De Sueños, alongside Farruquito, Miguel Poveda and Marina Heredia. Her versatility has also led her to collaborate with jazz and world-music artists, such as Sergio de Lope.
Cristina Aguilera: international flamenco career
Cristina has taken her art to stages in the United States, Mexico, Belgium and Turkey. She has also given courses and participated in international festivals, where her work has been met with great interest for its ability to unite tradition with contemporary expression. In 2022 she premiered 8500 Pesetas De Premio with the singer Antonio Campos, a tribute to the 1922 Concurso de Cante Jondo.
