Ana Polanco: Passion, tradition and flamenco singing

Let’s get to know Ana Polanco, one of the great voices in modern flamenco singing, whose live performance we have the pleasure of enjoying at Teatro Flamenco Sevilla.

In the flamenco universe, there are few voices that manage to capture the essence of the Spanish soul with the depth and passion that characterises Ana Polanco. Crossing the borders of the flamenco genre with her talent and commitment to flamenco singing traditions, she takes to the stage at Teatro Flamenco Sevilla with an unforgettable performance.

Ana Polanco’s beginnings and career

Ana Polanco, born in Cádiz, absorbed the flamenco influences which from an early age permeated her surroundings. She began her artistic journey exploring the different flamenco styles, from the soleá to the bulería. Her early training set the foundations for a career dedicated to the authentic expression of flamenco singing.

Despite her young age, she has a long artistic career behind her, beginning when she was just a young girl, first as a flamenco dancer then as a singer accompanying many flamenco greats on tour and visiting many countries, including the United States.

As a young girl she danced for James Bond, but she preferred flamenco singing, performing with artists such as Sara Baras.

Over the years, Ana Polanco has consolidated her reputation in the world of national and international flamenco. Her ability to combine the tradition of flamenco with innovative elements has captured the attention of both audiences and critics. With performances in renowned festivals and collaborations with outstanding flamenco artists, she has proved to be a powerful and versatile flamenco voice.

Style and emotion in each flamenco performance

What distinguishes Ana Polanco is her ability to transmit passion through her voice. Her deep voice, full of different shades and tones, evokes the most intense feelings of flamenco, from melancholy of a siguiriya to the passion of an alegría. Her unique style respects the roots of flamenco while exploring new forms of expression which maintains the flame of this centuries-old art form alive.

Ana Polanco is well-known for her improvisation skill and her ability to adapt her voice to the different rhythms and flamenco styles. Her interpretation is not only based on vocal technique but also in the deep emotional connection with each lyric and melody. Every time that Ana Polanco appears on stage, she takes her audience on an emotional voyage, where the ancient lyrics gain new life and emotions bloom intensely.

As well as her vocal skill, Ana Polanco, through her gestures and movements, enriches her performance, expressing through her body and facial language what words alone can’t express.

Education and cultural commitment

As well as her professional life as a flamenco singer, Ana Polanco dedicates time to teaching flamenco, holding classes and workshops that serve to preserve and enrich the cultural heritage of the genre. Her commitment to new generations ensures that the flamenco legacy lasts and evolves, inspiring future artists to explore their own voices within the flamenco singing world.
